Et velfungerende sæt spredere er derfor en af de detaljer, der har stor betydning for, hvordan motoren opfører sig i dagligdagen, og for hvor meget effekt du reelt kan hente ud af opbygningen. Flow-kapacitet er den vigtigste parameter Når du skal vælge spreder, er flow-kapaciteten det første, du bør have styr på. Den angives typisk i lbs per hour og beskriver, hvor meget brændstof sprederen kan levere over tid ved fuldt åben ventil. Vælger du en spreder med for lav kapacitet til en motor, der er bygget om til mere effekt, risikerer du, at motoren løber for fattig på brændstof, hvilket i værste fald kan skade indvendige dele. En spreder med en anden flowkapacitet end den, motorstyringen og brændstofsystemet er tilpasset til, kan give en forkert brændstofmængde. Det rigtige valg afhænger derfor altid af den konkrete motors opbygning, det ønskede effektniveau og resten af brændstofsystemet, herunder pumpe og trykregulator. Spredere findes i et bredt spænd af flow-kapaciteter, så der som regel findes en løsning, der passer til både standardmotorer og motorer bygget til mere ydeevne. Hvorfor kvalitet og korrekt montering betyder noget Fordi en spreder arbejder under højt tryk og skal åbne og lukke præcist mange gange i sekundet, er det vigtigt, at komponenten arbejder stabilt gennem hele sin levetid. En spreder, der begynder at dryppe eller ikke lukker helt tæt, kan give ujævn tomgang, dårligere forbrug og i nogle tilfælde startproblemer. Derfor er det en god idé at vælge en kompatibel model og sikre, at O-ringe og tætninger passer til den konkrete model ved montering. Selve monteringen bør ske omhyggeligt, så sprederen sidder korrekt i sit sæde i indsugningsmanifolden eller drosselhuset, uden at der opstår luftlækager omkring den.
