Strømfordelerens opgave er at sikre, at gnisten fordeles til tændrørene for at få bilen startet. Strømfordeleren er en del af bilens tændingssystem og bruges ved at generere højspændingen i tændspolen, som så fordeles til motorens cylindre. Dette sker med en gnist overført via en hallsensor, som får brændstofblandingen til at antænde i cylindrene. Hvis strømfordeleren til bilen er slidt, kan det betyde, at bilen ikke vil starte.
